Guardiola confirms Bernardo Silva will go to Barcelona, but only as a Man City player

Barcelona will have to switch their targets after Pep Guardiola appeared to close the door on Bernardo Silva leaving Manchester City.

Playmaker Bernardo has been linked with Barcelona for much of the current transfer window, with Xavi looking to build a team capable of challenge for LaLiga and Champions League honours.

However, former Barcelona head coach Guardiola has been insistent he wants the 28-year-old Portugal international to stay at City.

On Thursday, Guardiola said Bernardo would be in Barcelona next week, but only on City duty as the clubs play a charity fundraising friendly at Camp Nou.

The match will benefit research into motor neurone disease (MND), also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

It is a condition suffered by fo…

Manchester United: Martial out, Bale in?

According to a , Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has lost all patience with Anthony Martial and is ready to sell the former Monaco player, in order to obtain the funds needed to sign Gareth Bale from .

Martial has often been criticized by Mourinho for his style, and with Juventus reportedly interested in the winger, it looks like his days at Old Trafford may be numbered. The young Frenchman is immensely talented and would certainly be a good addition to any team, even though Mourinho obviously doesn t feel that way.

Bale is going through a similar situation at Real. His stint there has been plagued with injuries, and even though he scored some vital goals since his move from Spurs, Zinedine Zidane has recently preferred the likes of Isco, Marco Asensio and Lucas…

Ramsey handed three-year QPR contract

Relegated QPR have appointed Chris Ramsey as head coach on a three-year contract, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

Ramsey assumed the reins following Harry Redknapp s departure in February, but was unable to preserve the Loftus Road outfit s Premier League status.

QPR have managed just three wins from 14 under Ramsey, but the 53-year-old has been entrusted with the task of returning the club to the top flight.

When Chris took over the role we were already in a very difficult position, yet despite our relegation, we – as a board – have been impressed with the professionalism and attention to detail he has demonstrated since becoming head coach, said chairman Tony Fernandes.

He lives and breathes management and coaching, and I am sure he will flourish i…

Borini happy with Liverpool stay

Liverpool striker Fabio Borini is delighted to remain at Anfield after seeing moves to QPR and Sunderland break down in the transfer window.

Borini – who was not keen on a move to Sunderland after they and Liverpool agreed a fee – seemed set for a switch to Loftus Road as deadline day neared.

But the 23-year-old, who was going to cost QPR a reported £10million, could not agree personal terms and remained at Anfield.

That is despite Brendan Rodgers saying last week that it was best to move on for Borini, and QPR boss Harry Redknapp revealed that the Italy forward was after far too much money.

His wage demands were way beyond anything we could afford, Redknapp said on Monday.

But Borini was pleased with staying at Liverpool and he took to Twit…

PSG’s Nene hints at Brazil return

Paris Saint-Germain forward Nene has admitted that he could return to Brazil in the near future.

Given that he has just over six months left on his deal at Parc des Princes, the Brazilian is widely expected to leave Paris in the January transfer window.

Big European clubs are lining up for his signature, which is hardly surprising when we know that he will be available at a cut-back price in the winter.

Nevertheless, the player now reveals a return to Brazil is the most realistic option as he wants to get reunited with his family.

”I want to get closer to my children who live in Brazil,” Nene told Brazilian internet provider UOL.

“Brazilian football has improved a lot and offers good opportunities to the players. Am I a wandering soul? No, …

Solskjaer leads Molde to Norwegian title

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has led his Molde side to the Norwegian title for the second consecutive season.

Molde beat Honefoss 1-0 on Sunday that moved them four points clear of Stromsgodset with one game remaining.

The 39-year-old joined Molde as head coach in 2011 and won the league in his first season at the club. Now, with one game to go, his men have retained the title thanks to super-sub Daniel Chukwu s header, coupled with a 2-1 defeat for Stromsgodset to Sandnes Ulf.

Speaking to Norway s TV2, the former Manchester United striker said: The boys have been very focused on getting this done. Now we ve shown that it can be won two years in a row without being called Rosenborg.

Rosenborg, who won 17 Norwegian titles between 1990 and 2010, are currently th…

Real Madrid defend spending spree

Real Madrid director general Jorge Valdano has defended his side s spending spree on new players like Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo, saying the cash-rich club can afford it.

Real Madrid is the richest club in the world. It generates a lot of money and this is why it recruits first rate players, he said after unveiling new defender Raul Albiol, who joined Real from Valencia for a reported fee of 15 million euros late Thursday.

Valdano made the comment when asked by reporters about the criticism by UEFA president Michel Platini over the more then 200 million euros which Real has shelled out for new talent.

Real paid 93 million euros to recruit Ronaldo, the 2008 FIFA World Footballer of the Year, from Manchester United and 65 million euros to secure Kaka, the FIFA Wo…

Xavi demands players do not get sloppy as Barca eye 15-point advantage

Xavi warned Barcelona they cannot consider the league title won even if they beat Girona to open up a 15-point lead over Real Madrid on Monday.

Barca were crushed 4-0 by Madrid in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final in midweek, meaning the Blaugrana only have the LaLiga title left to play for.

They were already 12 points clear at the summit before this weekend, and Madrid s surprise 3-2 home defeat to Villarreal on Saturday gives Barca the opportunity to increase the gap.

No team has ever overturned such a deficit at this stage of a LaLiga season, so Barca s position looks very secure.

But Xavi was keen to stress the importance of not taking their lead for granted, with the former midfielder acknowledging his young squad does lack a degree of …

With or without Haaland, Solskjaer´s Manchester United are finally going places

Erling Haaland is going to Juventus. No, sorry, that should say Manchester United. Or is it Leipzig, I can never quite remember. Did the papers say Dortmund? You might be right.

What we know about Haaland is that it should be a matter of days before his future becomes clear. The Salzburg striker is surely going somewhere in January.

If his eventual destination is Old Trafford, then that raises an issue. Because on the evidence of the 4-1 Boxing Day win over Newcastle United, the Red Devils have a set of forwards who should be going nowhere.

In 22-year-old Marcus Rashford and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood, they possess two of the brightest young forwards in the Premier League certainly, perhaps in all of Europe.

And with two-goal Anthony Martial looking the…
